FRP pipes for flue gas desulfurization (FGD) - High performance corrosion-resistant solutions
Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) systems are key environmental protection equipment used by coal-fired power plants, steel plants, chemical plants and other industries to reduce sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions. In FGD systems, pipelines need to be exposed to highly corrosive media (such as sulfuric acid, chloride ions, high-temperature wet flue gas, etc.) for a long time, so the corrosion resistance, wear resistance and mechanical strength of the materials are extremely high.
FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) pipes have become an ideal choice for FGD systems due to their excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, light weight and long life. Our company specializes in the production of FGD special FRP pipes, which are manufactured using advanced technology to ensure the stability and durability of the product under harsh working conditions.

Features & Advantages
Compared with traditional metal (such as 316L stainless steel, carbon steel rubber lining) pipes, FGD FRP pipe has the following significant advantages:
Excellent Corrosion Resistance
No rubber lining or coating is required, and it can directly withstand corrosive media such as wet flue gas, dilute sulfuric acid, chlorides, etc. in the FGD system.
Lightweight and Easy to Install
The weight is only 1/4 of that of steel pipes, the strength is close to that of steel, and it is easy to install.
Low maintenance, long life
No pitting or intergranular corrosion will occur, the maintenance cost is extremely low, and the service life can reach more than 20 years.
Excellent fluid performance
The inner wall is smooth (roughness 0.008mm), reducing scaling and pressure drop, and improving desulfurization efficiency.
Environmental protection and energy saving
Low production energy consumption, no heavy metal pollution, in line with green environmental protection requirements.
Corrosion Resistance
Resistant to strong acid and alkali media with pH 1-14, and resistant to Cl⁻ and SO₄²⁻ corrosion
Working Temperature
-40℃ ~ 120℃ (can reach 150℃ in a short term)
Compressive Strength
≥250 MPa (circumferential)
Flexural Strength
Abrasion resistance More than 3 times better than ordinary carbon steel
Density
1.6-2.0 g/cm³ (only 1/4 of steel pipe)
Service Life
More than 20 years (in FGD environment)
Our company can provide customized production, common specifications are as follows:
(DN) | Thickness (mm) | Length(m) | Pressure (MPa) |
DN50-DN300 | 4-8 | 6/12 | 0.6-1.6 |
DN350-DN800 | 8-12 | 6/12 | 0.6-1.0 |
DN900-DN2000 | 12-20 | 6/12 | 0.4-0.8 |
Special needs:
Flange connection, socket connection or adhesive connection can be provided.
Customizable insulation layer or electric heating version, suitable for low temperature environment.

Production Process
The FGD FRP pipes produced by our company adopt a winding molding process and combine vinyl ester resin or bisphenol A type unsaturated polyester resin as the base material to ensure excellent corrosion resistance.
Raw material selection
Resin: Use highly corrosion-resistant vinyl ester resin (such as Derakane 470, Hetron 992, etc.), suitable for strong acid and strong alkali environments.
Reinforcement material: Use alkali-free glass fiber (E-glass) or high-strength fiber (such as carbon fiber reinforcement layer) to improve mechanical properties.
Additives: Add anti-ultraviolet agents, flame retardants, etc. to improve environmental adaptability.
Filming molding
- Inner lining: Use a corrosion-resistant layer with a high resin content (2.5-3mm) to ensure that the medium is impermeable.
- Structural layer: Use cross-winding technology to optimize fiber arrangement and improve circumferential and axial strength.
- Outer protective layer: Add anti-aging coating to prevent ultraviolet rays, wind and rain erosion.
Curing and post-treatment
Use high-temperature curing technology to ensure that the resin is fully cross-linked, improve temperature resistance and mechanical properties.
The inner wall of the pipeline can be polished to reduce scale accumulation and improve fluid permeability.
Application
FGD FRP pipes are widely used in the following scenarios:
Coal-fired power plants: desulfurization tower inlet and outlet flues, slurry pipelines, spray pipes
Steel metallurgy: sintering machine flue gas desulfurization system
Chemical industry: acid gas treatment pipeline
Waste incineration: flue gas purification system
Papermaking and cement industry: tail gas treatment pipeline
