FRP pipes for flue gas desulfurization (FGD) – high-performance corrosion-resistant solutions

Recently, as global environmental protection policies continue to tighten, flue gas desulfurization (FGD), a core link in the ultra-low emission transformation of power generation, steel, chemical and other industries, has imposed increasingly stringent requirements on the performance of anti-corrosion pipes. Leveraging years of technical accumulation in the composite materials field, our company has launched a series of high-performance FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) pipe products customized for FGD scenarios. With excellent corrosion resistance and full-life-cycle cost advantages, these products provide stable and reliable environmental protection solutions for industrial customers worldwide, facilitating the green transformation of the industry.

The operating environment of FGD systems is extremely complex. Corrosive media such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid in desulfurization slurry, coupled with high temperature, high humidity and abrasive particle erosion, make traditional metal pipes and rubber-lined pipes prone to corrosion leakage, scaling and blockage. Frequent maintenance not only affects production continuity but also pushes up operating costs. Our specially developed FRP pipes for FGD have achieved comprehensive upgrades from material formulation to structural design, addressing key industry pain points.

In terms of core performance, this series of FRP pipes is manufactured by precision winding process using high-performance vinyl ester resin and alkali-free glass fiber, boasting both super strong corrosion resistance and structural strength. They can withstand the erosion of various acids, alkalis, salt solutions and oxidizing media without additional cathodic protection or lining treatment, and have a service life of 30-50 years under typical wet FGD operating conditions. Their lightweight feature (only 1/5 the weight of steel) significantly reduces transportation, installation and foundation support costs. Equipped with a smooth inner wall design, they minimize hydraulic friction loss, effectively improving the circulation efficiency of desulfurization slurry and reducing energy consumption. For special harsh scenarios, customized thermoplastic lining (PP, PVDF, etc.) double-layer structures are also available to further enhance chemical stability, meet the requirements of high-temperature, high-pressure and strong corrosion working conditions, and fully comply with international standards such as ASTM and DIN.

Supported by technological advantages, our FRP pipes have been successfully applied in numerous key FGD projects at home and abroad. In the FGD anti-corrosion project of Myanmar MCL 2*20MW captive coal-fired power plant, our company provided a full set of products including FRP spray pipes, slurry circulation pipes and supporting nozzles, and undertook more than 3,000 square meters of anti-corrosion construction and equipment installation tasks. Facing the harsh high-temperature and high-humidity environment locally, the pipe system has operated stably for many years without faults, and has won high recognition from the general contractor Conch Kawasaki, Xinchuang Environmental Protection and the owner for its excellent performance. In addition, in projects such as the renovation of old power plants in Europe and America and the construction of new coal-fired power plants in Southeast Asia, our products have also occupied an important market share by virtue of cost-performance advantages, helping customers achieve the dual goals of environmental compliance and benefit improvement.

Currently, the global FGD spray pipe market scale continues to grow, expected to exceed 4.2 billion US dollars by 2025, among which FRP materials account for 65% and have become the mainstream choice. With the accelerated FGD transformation in non-power industries and the explosion of demand in emerging markets, the demand for high-performance anti-corrosion pipes in the FGD field will continue to rise. Our company will continue to focus on technological innovation, optimize product matrix, expand intelligent monitoring and “equipment + service” integrated solutions, provide customized full-process services including design, production and installation for customers in different industries, and empower the global environmental protection cause with higher-quality FRP pipe products to contribute to the achievement of the “dual carbon” goals.

In the future, our company will adhere to the concept of green development, deepen industry-university-research cooperation, continuously break through the application bottlenecks of composite materials, create more high-performance solutions in environmental protection fields such as FGD and wastewater treatment, and work with customers to build a sustainable industrial ecosystem.

FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) pipes have become an ideal choice for FGD systems due to their excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, light weight and long life. Our company specializes in the production of FGD special FRP pipes, which are manufactured using advanced technology to ensure the stability and durability of the product under harsh working conditions.
