FRP Pipe for Oil and Gas Project

Why does the Middle East oil industry choose FRP pipes?

In the Middle East, the oil and gas industry is the lifeblood of the national economy. Countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Iraq, and Kuwait are continuously expanding oil and gas exploration, transportation, and refining projects. In these industrial scenarios with extreme environments, complex media, and strong corrosiveness, FRP pipes are gradually replacing traditional materials such as carbon steel and stainless steel, becoming a key pipeline system solution in oil projects.

Technical Highlights

Super Corrosion Resistance

Resistant to highly corrosive media such as hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), chlorides, CO₂, and salt water

Especially suitable for crude oil transportation, sour natural gas processing, oil-water separation systems, etc.

Can withstand pressure up to 2.5MPa, and the temperature resistance can be customized up to 120℃

Applicable to refineries, oil field water injection systems, and high-temperature waste liquid discharge pipelines.

The weight is 1/4 of that of steel pipes, and the hoisting is simple, and the transportation and installation are more efficient

Reduce the construction difficulty and labor costs in complex environments such as deserts and plateaus

Normal service life ≥ 30 years, almost no maintenance required

Effectively reduce the long-term operation and maintenance costs of operating units in the Middle East

Common FRP pipe specifications for Middle East projects (customized examples)

  1. Diameter range: DN80 ~ DN3000 (commonly used: DN150 ~ DN1200)
  2. Design pressure: 1.0 ~ 2.5 MPa
  3. Design temperature: -20℃ ~ +110℃
  4. Ring stiffness: SN5000 ~ SN10000 (anti-deformation in high wind and sand areas)
  5. Connection method: bonding, double O-ring, flange, socket connection
  6. Supporting accessories: elbows, tees, reducers, supports, etc. can be supplied in matching packages

Typical application scenarios of FRP pipes in Middle East oil projects

Application Scenario

Description

Oilfield water injection systemCorrosion-resistant, high-pressure water injection FRP pipes replace carbon steel to extend service life
Sour natural gas pipelinesFRP pipes are not corroded by H₂S and are suitable for high-sulfur oil and gas fields
Crude oil processing equipment supporting pipeline networkUsed for crude oil dehydration, separation, cooling, waste liquid discharge, etc.
Oil well produced water transportationFRP pipes are resistant to high chlorine and high salt content water and prevent scaling
Refinery cooling circulation systemReplace carbon steel pipes to avoid corrosion and leakage problems

High Strength

The specific strength of FRP is higher than that of steel, and the hoop tensile strength can reach more than 300MPa.

Corrosion Resistance

It can resist corrosion from chemical media such as acids, alkalis, salts, and organic solvents, and its service life is more than 30 years.

Light Weight

The density is only 1/4 of that of steel pipes, which is convenient for transportation and installation.

Low Friction Coefficient

The inner wall is smooth (roughness coefficient 0.0084), the hydraulic performance is excellent, and the conveying efficiency is high.

Good thermal insulation

Low thermal conductivity (0.25W/m·K), reducing heat energy loss.

Anti-aging&Electrical insulation

Anti-ultraviolet agent is added, suitable for outdoor and harsh environments. Non-conductive, suitable for power, communication and other fields.
